Hemp Plastic

Hemp is the Most Efficient Crop for Reducing Global Warming. It's nearly impossible to overemphasize the threat of climate change. The fact that greenhouse gas emissions are rising more rapidly than predicted and consequently the world is warming more quickly. Global warming will have catastrophic effects such as accelerating sea level rise, droughts, floods, storms and heat waves. These will impact world drastically disrupting food production, and threatening significantly important species, habitats and ecosystems.
This brings me to the next benefit of the hemp plant.
Hemp Plastics compete with engineering compounds in properties such as stiffness and high heat tolerance. The benefit of infusing hemp fibbers lies in that less plastic is used therefore; less oil, less pollution and a more durable, biodegradable product is created. This type of plastic is recyclable and can be manufactured to be 100% biodegradable; whereas the production of petrochemical plastics creates large carbon dioxide emissions and toxic by-products.
There are many different types of hemp plastic; from standard plastics rejuvenated with hemp fibers, to a 100% hemp plastic made entirely from the hemp plant. Designed in Europe over 15 years and now produced in China, Hemp Plastics compete with engineering compounds in properties such as stiffness and high heat tolerance. The benefit of infusing hemp fibers lies in that less plastic is used therefore; less oil, less pollution and a more durable, biodegradable product is created. This type of plastic is recyclable and can be manufactured to be 100% biodegradable; whereas the production of petrochemical plastics creates large carbon dioxide emissions and toxic by-products.

Hemp Seed

This week I was sort of bewildered as of what benefit of the hemp plant to explore, owing to the fact that there are endless information that I want to convey onto you guys. So while brainstorming it droned on me that everyone wants to look good, so why not give a few tips, hence the reason why we shall explore the “hemp seeds”.

Did you know that Hemp seeds are high in nutritional value and contain 20 different varieties of amino acids?

They contain high amounts of protein, which helps in strengthening the immune system, thereby, reducing the instances of diseases, besides helping in excreting toxins from the body. With all this being said I know that you may be wondering if you can get high from the seeds, but the answer is NO; because the THC tetrahydrocannabinol the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana is not found in the seeds itself. Upon completion of the harvest the seeds are to be washed as it may contains THC on the outside, it is said that once washed it can be used for its oil.

The protein found within this oil repairs damaged skin on the cellular level. It strengthens the cell walls while hydrating and helping the epidermal layers of the skin maintaining its moisture content. This oil is great for skin suffering from inflammatory conditions, such as acne, rosacea and eczema psoriasis. It also has antioxidants which is good for younger looking skin.

I have not tried it however, hemp seeds are said to taste great, very nutty and almost sweet. I can imagine adding the oil to salad dressings (similar to olive oil). There is also hemp cereal and drinks/ shakes; as a matter of fact I have tried “hemp wine” a few years ago and it tasted great.

I know that hemp is still illegal so I will not advise anyone to have it in their possession, however you can access hemp products via “Global hemp” which is a website that sells hemp soap and lip balm amongst other hemp products.

Massaging the seed oil into scalp once per week with regular shampooing and conditioning is said to moisturize, strengthen hair follicles and repair dry damaged hair.

Hemp Paper

On an annual basis, 1 acre of hemp produces more paper, as much as that of 2 to 4 acres of  what trees would generate. Hemp can produce tissue paper to cardboard, all type of paper products. This as trees are made up of only 30% cellulose. The other 70% of the tree must be removed using toxic chemicals, until the cellulose can be formed into paper. The higher the percentage of cellulose in a plant, the better, as fewer chemicals is used, therefore less work needs to be done before the paper can be made. It can be recycled many more times than tree-based-paper and requires less toxic chemicals to manufacture. The quality of hemp paper is superior to tree-based-paper, this as hemp paper can last hundreds of years without degrading.

For instance let us take into consideration the Gutenberg bible, made of hemp and the “first book” made on a printing press. It is still available today. In fact up until 1883, 75% to 90% of all paper in the world was made from cannabis hemp fibre  There are many famous writing besides the Gutenberg bible that were written on hemp paper and these include; the king James bible of the 17th century and the first draft of the U.S declaration of independence just to name a few.

Hemp Textiles

Many people have no idea that hemp has been used for textiles before, and herein lies my inspiration for this week's post.

Hemp is one of the oldest crop known to man, and has been cultivated for its fibre and medical properties since ancient times. The hemp plant contains one of the longest and strongest natural fibres, rivalling synthetic fibres such as glass fibre. In the past it was used to produce clothing and  is said that Californian gold diggers jeans and  levi jeans were first made from hemp. However over a period of time hemp has been rejected as a fibre crop due to its association with narcotic drug production, which prompted cultivation to be banned.

Hemp textile are both superior in quality and less ecologically damaging to produce. Despite being outlawed industrial hemp remains one of the best sources for long fibres and textiles of all kinds;  its textiles is many times harder wearing than denim, yet its fabric can be every bit as soft and versatile as cotton, more water absorbent, possess elasticity and great ability to withstand high temperatures without degeneration.  Plus hemp cultivation takes less heavy machinery to harvest and has to be cultivated yearly as oppose to trees which takes forty years, and provides homes for many animals.

Hemp otherwise known as Cannabis stavia is coming out of the closet as more people are being sensitize about its countless uses.

Here I have included a video which highlights clothing made from the stalk of the hemp plant.

This link will take you to the actual history of the levi-jeans

Thank you all for visiting my blog.  Please look out for next week's post.

Wonders of the hemp plant

What is this blog about?

I am sure that you all are familiar with the terms weed, ganja, cannabis, mary jane, pot and chronic. Yes these words are used to describe an illegal mind altering substance called marijuana, the hemp plant.

The hemp plant is one of the most important and individualise plant on earth. I know that most of you are wondering, why I am referring to this drug with such grandiosity?

However the hemp plant has great potential for industrial and manufactured  goods. The cannabis hemp far exceeds any other crop, and in my opinion is undoubtedly the number one renewable cash resource in the world, providing jobs, medicine for hundreds of aliments, clothing and materials. The hemp plant is indeed the most important and individualised crop on earth.

lobbying, propaganda campaigns and the tree pulp industry blocked and rejected the hemp industry as it was being abused posing great health risk.

I know that most of you are unaware of the countless benefits of the hemp plant and herein lies my objective; which is to educate the public about the great benefits that the hemp plant has to offer our society.

So look out for my weekly posts that will  also be comprised of videos and pictures in aid of imparting knowledge unto the public about the hidden wonders of the hemp plant.
