Hemp Plastic

Hemp is the Most Efficient Crop for Reducing Global Warming. It's nearly impossible to overemphasize the threat of climate change. The fact that greenhouse gas emissions are rising more rapidly than predicted and consequently the world is warming more quickly. Global warming will have catastrophic effects such as accelerating sea level rise, droughts, floods, storms and heat waves. These will impact world drastically disrupting food production, and threatening significantly important species, habitats and ecosystems.
This brings me to the next benefit of the hemp plant.
Hemp Plastics compete with engineering compounds in properties such as stiffness and high heat tolerance. The benefit of infusing hemp fibbers lies in that less plastic is used therefore; less oil, less pollution and a more durable, biodegradable product is created. This type of plastic is recyclable and can be manufactured to be 100% biodegradable; whereas the production of petrochemical plastics creates large carbon dioxide emissions and toxic by-products.
There are many different types of hemp plastic; from standard plastics rejuvenated with hemp fibers, to a 100% hemp plastic made entirely from the hemp plant. Designed in Europe over 15 years and now produced in China, Hemp Plastics compete with engineering compounds in properties such as stiffness and high heat tolerance. The benefit of infusing hemp fibers lies in that less plastic is used therefore; less oil, less pollution and a more durable, biodegradable product is created. This type of plastic is recyclable and can be manufactured to be 100% biodegradable; whereas the production of petrochemical plastics creates large carbon dioxide emissions and toxic by-products.

  1. hey nadine, now that you have been doing this blog for some time now and with all your research into this topic, answer me this, why hasn't hemp been adopted widely as alternatives to what we currently use? Plastics and clothing are two of the items that hemp can be used to make and with all its benefits, it only makes sense to adopt it plus this same resource can possibly be used to create clothing for countries that are far below third world status (please do correct me if I'm wrong). Let me know what you think about why it is taking so long.

  3. Derry actually globally there are few places that actually endorse the hemp industry hence the reason why I am able to get these information, however due to excessive abuse and misuse it carries a stigma and the reality is that no one wants to be aligned with an illegal substance regardless of its benefits.

I believe that the main problem lies in lack of knowledge on the topic. I say this because many people are unaware that there are two types or grades of hemp plant there are the ones that are referred to as the industrial hemp, which has elongated stock which is the stuff used to manufacture or produce all the products highlighted in all of my weekly post and more. It has very little tetrahydrocannabinol (THC the active ingredient in marijuana which makes people high). The other hemp/marijuana that we all know and is responsible for this stigma and the plant being illegal.

With my journalist background I see this topic worthy to be publicized.
